Pea Soup Andersen’s is located at 12411 S Hwy 33 Santa Nella, CA 95322.
It is an iconic landmark for anyone growing up in Northern California or anyone who has traveled to or from Southern California along Highway 5. Anderson’s is our go-to place to stop for breakfast, lunch, or dinner when traveling along I-5. It has been for me since I was young and we would take family vacations. Seeing the iconic windmill in the distance ahead of us, meant we were finally taking a break from the long day on the road. Then there is Hap-Pea and Pea-Wee that just make you smile when you see them.
Pea Soup Andersen is full of history and you can read more about it at Pea Soup Andersens – Santa Nella – History. The first thing you notice is the working windmill attached to the restaurant building. The windmill was the first of its kind in California; it stands 77 feet tall and operates whenever the restaurant is open. You enter through the doors and pass through the gift shop that is full of logo items, trinkets, and gourmet goodies including cans of their trademark split pea soup and bags of dried split peas.
The staff is always friendly and welcoming, and the place is very busy all the time, I do not think we have ever visited when it is not busy, but we have never had more than a 10–15-minute wait for a table. You have this feeling of being in someone’s home having a family dinner when you are here. They will take the time to visit and ask how your day was, and where you were coming from and just act like they want to get to know you.
I will give you a little secret if you are getting the all-you-can-eat soup when you are full always order one more bowl. When the server asks you if you would like take-out boxes (and you most likely will as it is large portions) eat a few bites like you are still eating, and ask for a to-go soup cup too. Fill that cup with your yummy soup for later.
