3041 S Las Vegas Blvd Las Vegas, NV 89109 – website

Tocos El Gordo is located on the Las Vegas Strip near Circus Circus. They are open daily Sunday to Thursday from 10:00 AM to 2:00 AM and Friday and Saturday from 10:00 AM to 4:00 AM. They can be crazy busy and usually have lines out the door and down the block. So if you want to try them be prepared to wait and do your research before you arrive to be better prepared to order.

There are four locations in Las Vegas, two in San Diego, California, and one in Chula Vista, California. All the locations seem to offer the same operation hours. We have only been to the one in Vegas so we can not give any information on the other locations. But they are all owned by the same family. The first location was opened in San Deigo, California in 1998. They opened the first Las Vegas location in 2010. The specialty is Tijuana-style tacos.

Tacos El Gordo on the Vegas strip is set up in a cafeteria-style order and has different lines for different styles of meat so pay attention to the signs so you are in the right line. What we found worked well we decided what we all wanted and each one of us got into a different line ordered from that line, and then met at the checkout. So it helps if you have more than one person with you. There is seating inside and outside on a patio, but locating seating can be difficult. We also noticed since we passed by at various times of day, during our trip to Vegas there was not any time better than another it was always busy. It took us approximately 45 minutes from the time we arrived to order our food, pay, and find a seat. The food was ok, as with everyone we had heard all the hype about this place, and honestly, there was nothing spectacular about them. They were just like the ones we got back home in California.

The restaurant is loud and can be chaotic but that is expected with the order system set up. Study the menu and know what you want before you reach the counter, this will save you a lot of frustration. For takeout instead of dining at the restaurant, just let them know when you order and they will wrap it up to go.
