72112 Baker Blvd Baker, CA 92309 – Website

This has become a favorite place for us to stop for a bite to eat on our way to Las Vegas. Be sure to stop right down the street at Alien Jerky (I think that is the main reason my hubby agrees to make this a regular stop on our way). We will have a review on Alien Jerky under Reviews.

Mad Greek Cafe

It will be the first thing you notice as you exit the freeway. A busy white and blue building surrounded by statues of Greek gods and goddesses, topped with blue and white Greek flags, the 3rd generation family owned and operated a casual Greek establishment known as the Mad Greek Café.

They are open 24 hours a day to accommodate travelers. Offering breakfast, lunch and dinner. Classic Greek offerings along with some American and Mexican offerings for those that might not be in the mood for Greek food.

Upon exiting your car, you will see people rushing in and out of the entrance doors. It is most often always very busy, but there is plenty of seating inside and out. The only way to order is at the very busy counter (so you will need to have some patients.) Prices are very reasonable and the wait time for receiving your food is not that long at all for as busy as they are.

What we ate:

Calamari Greek Salad

Iceberg and romaine lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, red onions, bell peppers, feta cheese, and kalamata olives topped with crispy fried calamari come with Greek dressing and pita bread on the side.

The calamari were lightly breaded and crispy. Nice amount for the size of the salad. Vegetables were fresh. The dressing comes on the side so you can add as little or as much as you like.

Small Greek Salad

Iceberg and romaine lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, red onions, bell peppers, feta cheese, and kalamata olives come with Greek dressing and pita bread on the side.

The vegetables are nice and fresh. There is a wedge of fresh lemon you can give a squeeze for a nice added freshness to the salad. The little Dolmas that you find tucked on the side of the salad is a little added surprise.

The side salads are a nice size to go along with a gyro. They also offer a variety of sodas, beers, and milkshakes.

Beef & Lamb Gyro

Beef and lamb mixed meat with lettuce, tomatoes, and onions on pita bread with tzatziki (Cucumber yogurt) on the side. The plates are served with a side of fries or rice.

The meat was very well seasoned, and the fries were a double fry, so they were nice and crispy. Nothing was over salted which was very nice. The gyro plate with fries and a small salad on the side is the perfect amount of food for lunch before heading back on the road. While the menu does not seem very large there are so many options you could choose, that every time you visit you could try something different.
