They are open seven days a week. You can sit in the bar area or join others and eat in the community dining room. They also have some outdoor eating to enjoy when the weather is nice. Pyrenne’s serves Basque cuisine. The Basques have a societal institution known as a ‘txoko’, a gastronomic society where members gather to cook, eat, and socialize. You can read more about this at About Pyrenees Cafe (thepyreneescafe.com) Pyrenne’s Cafe has been around since 1935.

After seeing an episode of Diners, Dives and Drives we knew that we wanted to stop and experience what this was all about. We are not disappointed at all. Even if you only have the chance to try it once you should put it on your bucket list to give it a try. Be warned, bring an appetite because you will eat a lot, and keep eating even when you think you are full because it is so good. Pyrenne’s has become our must-stop dining anytime we are in Bakersfield. We have dined in both the bar area and the community dining room. We prefer the bar area when it is not a busy day or night cause it’s a little quieter and more private.

You can choose to have menu items ala cart, but we suggest doing the “full set” and enjoying the experience. Basque Style Setup includes Bread, Salsa, Cabbage Soup, Beans, Salad, Marinated Cucumbers, Hot Vegetables, French Fries & Spaghetti with Bolognese Sauce, Pickled Tounge and house wine. We have been a few times so I am not going to list any prices but the average for the entree of your choice with the Basque setup for dinner is $15-$25 depending on your choice of entree. They also offer daily specials Monday is Osso Buco, Tuesday is Lamb Shank, Wednesday is Oxtail Stew, Thursday is Lamb Stew, and Friday is Prime Rib. I will also list the different entrees we have enjoyed up to the date of this entry. I can say that my go-to is the Garlic Fried Chicken, if you like garlic and fried chicken this is a must-have.
