7600 Beach Blvd Buena Park, CA 90620 – Website

Located in Buena Park, California in Orange County not far from Disneyland or Knotts Berry Farm. Pirates Dinner Adventure is a live-action show in an indoor theater. Containing stunts, loud noises, strobe, and special effects lighting. Haze, fog, flame effects, and pyrotechnics all in one show. Costumes are welcome but must be family-friendly, masks and weapons are not allowed.

The cost for the adventure is a little pricy, but if you do some research, you can find some discounts around. The cost is $64.95 for 12 years and above, $36.95 for kids aged 3 to 11 years, children 2 and under are free. There are also a couple of upgrade options available. Note that the booths for treasure and VIP seating can only accommodate up to 6 people.

Treasure Seating Upgrade: The cost is $25.00 more per ticket. Includes: Seating within 1st or 2nd rows, Pirate Headband, Beaded Necklace, VIP check-in, and 1 Photo Book per Reservation.

VIP Seating Upgrade: The cost is $37.00 more per ticket. Includes: Guaranteed first-row seating, Pirate Headband, Beaded Necklace, Pirate Flag, 15% off in Gift Shop, VIP check-in, and 1 Photo Book per Reservation.

They also offer a variety of souvenir package upgrades you can add on at the time of your ticket purchase. If you are celebrating something special some of the packages offer announcements during the show. (Announcements are subject to their approval). You can locate the information on their website at www.piratesdinneradventureca.com

They suggest that you arrive at least 60 minutes before the show. Also note that there is a $5.00 parking fee per vehicle. After you have parked you will wait in line to check in at the box office and you are assigned your pirate color, you are assigned a color that corresponds to the section you will be sitting in.

Main Entrance

After checking in you proceed to the main entrance where you will find the gift shop and two bars. There is a limited amount of seating in the area. Servers came around with a few trays and there was a chef station serving complementary appetizers. Sweet potato balls, jalapeño poppers, cheese sticks, bread with a slice of cheese & ham, celery & carrot sticks. There are two bars where you can purchase drinks. Now you need to know that on your first purchase, you are also “required” to purchase one of their logo drink classes, so it will be either $8.00 or $10.00 depending on if it is a cocktail or beer. The drinks are also $8 to $10 depending on what you order.

The lobby also holds a small gift shop where you can purchase souvenirs and a few other trinkets. There are a lot of things to look at around the lobby while you are waiting. As well as some cute picture opportunities.

There are a couple of different shows that they offer. We attended in October, so it was during their “Vampirates” show. Per the website, this is what the show is about “Travel back to the 1800’s where you’ll climb aboard the Evil Captain Sebastian the Black’s ship for an interactive family friendly evening filled with adventure, romance and a spooky good time. While enjoying a three-course meal so delicious it’s scary, you’ll witness feats of aerial artistry, swordplay, death-defying stunts, and dynamic duels.

The pirate of your color (seating assignment you were given at the box office) will come to the lobby and hold up his flag to call you to line up to be seated, they do all the seating in sections which is nice so not everyone is trying to crowd in and find their section at the same time.

Upon entering the “show” area the first thing you notice is the huge pirate ship in the center of the room. I would suggest bringing a little jacket it is a little chilly and damp in the room. The general seating is also pretty tight even though there were plenty of empty seats they crowd too many people into one row, so you are constantly bumping the person next to you or being bumped.

The food service starts pretty quickly after everyone has been seated. But I will say that is the only quick thing. They are pretty one-track minded and that is to just drop off the food. It is almost impossible to ask to order another drink if you would like one, we were asked once if we would like to order another drink. So, I would also suggest ordering some water, soda, or tea. The standard dinner comes with unlimited soda, tea, and/or coffee.

Cake

The standard meal is your choice of soup or salad starter. The main course is roasted chicken served with mashed potatoes and roasted vegetables. You get a piece of cake for dessert. There are some upgrades available for the meal if you would like at an additional cost to the price of your ticket. They also offer vegetarian and vegan options.

The food was very average and reminded me of mass-produced banquet food, under-seasoned, and just quickly plated. I had the soup for my starter and hubby had the salad. The soup was like blended raw tomatoes almost having a metallic taste like it was a can of crushed tomatoes that they heated no seasoning at all. The salad was all wilted lettuce with a heavy coating of runny ranch dressing. The chicken quarter was lightly seasoned, but very dry and the skin was rubbery. Mashed potatoes we a glob of just mashed potatoes, no season, butter, nothing just dry potatoes. The roasted vegetables had no seasoning, overcooked and mushy. I cannot give an opinion of the cake for dessert because right after they brought it I got up to use the bathroom and when I came back everything was cleared including my cake. But it looked like a standard sheet cake, Hubby said it was pretty dry and the frosting was very sweet.

Now for the show. It was not bad there was a lot of action going on and they interacted with the audience. But the sound system was horrible, it was almost impossible to understand what they were saying especially when they were singing.

So, with all that said would we do it again? We might if we were with friends who had not been and wanted to check it out or with our grandson maybe. But on our own for a night out no. But it is something that is different to do once and say you have done it.
