770 North Las Vegas Blvd Las Vegas, NV 89101 – Website

The Neon Museum is open daily but hours differ depending on the time of year, so check the website for hours of operation. It is better to visit during the evening to get the full experience of the signs. It is a little cheaper admission if you do a self-guided tour, but honestly, it is nice having the guided tour to get the history and being able to ask questions. There are signs with some information along the way that you can read on the self-guided tour. We have done both at night and enjoyed the guided tour more.

The museum was founded in 1996 in partnership with the Allied Arts Council of Southern Nevada and the City of Las Vegas. After 10 years of collecting signs, the partnership worked together to create a place for the signs. The museum officially opened in 1996. Originally access to the collection was only by appointment. In October 2012 paid public admission started. The museum sits on 2.62 acres featuring Las Vegas history in the form of signs from casinos and businesses in an outdoor sign “graveyard”.

Restoring a sign can range from $10,000 to $100,000. The Neon Boneyard sign is created using letters shaped from other famous signs. The N is from the Golden Nugget, E from Caesars Palace, O from Binion’s Horseshoe, and N from Desert Inn. The letters are set on a grid inspired by the Sands sign and decorated with stars like the Stardust and the trademark like the Welcome to Las Vegas sign.
