Green Valley Resort – https://www.greenvalleyranch.com/
Green Valley is a beautiful resort and is quieter than being at a hotel on the strip. We stayed for six days (Saturday to Friday). It was an ok stay, but nothing to rave about. This review will cover the issues we had during our stay and then I will share our thoughts on the hotel itself. Most of the interactions were with me during the day of the stay as hubby was in meetings so he only had some free time in the evening.
When we checked in, they had no non-smoking king rooms available (which we had reserved with our reservation made a couple of months before our arrival) so we were given a double room for the evening. The next morning, while Hubby was at his conference meetings, I got to deal with the room issue. They had the bell desk hold our bags so they could clean the room we were in and wait until someone checked out of a king room and it was cleaned. While this took place, they had taken our room keys so were left sitting around until a room was ready, which took over 4 hours. I decided to take my laptop and go lounge by the pool. While waiting I sat on one of the round orange couches in the pool area, I was immediately approached by a staff member and asked to move or pay the $100 to rent one, mind you at 10 am there was no one in the pool area but me. You have me inconvenienced, because of your booking error and I can’t even use an empty chair without being hounded for more money.
Pool Area
Wednesday while at the pool at 2:30 PM, the hotel staff started to remove all lounge chairs and umbrellas leaving very little space for anyone to be able to sit, there were approximately 40 people at the pool at this time. People moved from the lounge chairs or the orange couches and were being allowed to use them without paying (no two days before this I was hounded about sitting on one without paying). Having all the furniture removed from around you while sitting at the pool caused a very uncomfortable feeling of them wanting you to leave the pool area. The front desk manager did offer to check with the spa and if there was room in the private spa pool, they would make arrangements for me to use that at no cost, well that defeated my purpose of wanting to relax outside by the pool. But a least they tried to make things right for the inconvenience.
Thursday at 10:30 am and again pool area is unavailable. No seating because the entire area is set up for an event in the evening. The hotel makes it impossible for guests to enjoy the outdoors, forcing them to the casino or leave the area. Why offer a pool area to guests if you are constantly going to have it closed down to use it for private events? Mind you it is already ridiculous that the pool is closed down every day at 5 pm. This makes it impossible for those attending conferences or who do things outside of the hotel during the day to be able to use the pool.
The service in the pool area is horrible. Hardly ever asked if we needed anything or wanted anything. I had to walk to the bar area and place our orders, leaving my stuff unattended or packing it up and taking it with me, and chance losing the chair I was using as they swooped in and put them away. The waitresses just walked past us every time, not asking anything. If you tried to get their attention they acted as if they did not hear you.
Few other notes about the hotel itself. The front entrance of the hotel for check-in is a little bit of a pain to find, if using GPS, it will take you to the casino entrance. So, we ended up driving around in circles for a bit. A plus they offer complimentary valet parking so you don’t have to worry about that. They also charge a hefty $100-a-day deposit, but it can be used for room charges from the hotel restaurants, gift shops, etc. The food court restaurants do not allow for room charges.
Rooms
The AC units in both rooms were horrible we had to drop the temperature to 60 degrees to get it even semi-comfortable. Other than that, the rooms are a nice size and comfortable. But be careful the mini refrigerator is not for your personal use; it is an overpriced stocked mini bar. They do have one robe hanging in the closet for you to use, you would think they would leave two since most of the time there are two people. We do not require our room to be cleaned every day, and even then, asked just to have the trash emptied every day and fresh towels every other day. Wednesday 10 am maids cleaned rooms next to us we had turned the little light at the door for service earlier that morning, and returned at 3 pm and the room had not been touched, and no maids on the floor. Called the front desk and was told, they were done on this floor, if the do not disturb light is on they won’t clean… as the picture shows the make-up room light was on. The front desk did say that would have someone come up so we could at least get the trash dumped since we had two days’ worth. The TV is an interactive tv so every time you turn it on you have to wait for it to recalibrate. Channels are very limited … no move channels so it’s whatever you can find on regular channels, news channels, or sports channels. I do get they want you in the casinos but when you have an entire day and an unusable pool area you are not going to sit in the casino all day. There is a small in-room safe for your use during your stay.
The casino area is ok, but very loud due to the volumes being turned up very loud on the machines. Cocktail service is pretty good, they came around fairly regularly and came back pretty quickly with your order. Seemed like most of the card tables were always closed and only one $5 blackjack table seemed to be the only one ever open. Dealers are friendly for the most part had a couple that were not very nice. The keno area is nice and relaxing to hang out and play keno at.
Outside there are some nice lounging areas to hang out at above the pool area, as long as they are not blocked off to be set up for a private party. There is a building area with a pool called “The Pond” I am not sure if it is open to the public, but we had the conference welcome reception there and it was very nice and comfortable.
