160 W Liberty St Reno, NV 89501 – http://www.nevadaart.org
This is a small art museum but houses a nice collection of art. There is also a small café located inside the museum if you would like to get a bite to eat. General admission is $15, $3 for children 6-12 years old. They are closed on Mondays and national holidays. Hours are 10 am to 6 pm except on Thursdays they are open until 8 pm. There is also a gift shop located at the museum. They offer free days on the second Saturday of each month, we happened to luck out and got to take advantage of the free day.
Founded in 1931, the Nevada Museum of Art (the Museum) is the only art museum in Nevada accredited by the American Alliance of Museums (AAM).
Art Collection: The museum houses a significant collection of modern art, possibly with some contemporary pieces as well. This could include artworks from local artists, showcasing the talent and creativity within the community.
Native American Art: There is a notable presence of Native American art in the museum, reflecting the cultural heritage and artistic traditions of indigenous peoples.
State History Exhibits: The museum also features exhibits that delve into the history of the state. This might include displays about pioneers, railroads, and other aspects that have played a crucial role in shaping the community and economy over time.
Activity Area: On the upper floors, there are approximately 11 active exhibits, suggesting interactive or engaging displays where visitors can participate in activities related to the themes explored in the museum.
The café has the typical look you would expect of a museum cafe, but it has a more upscale menu and prices to match a white tablecloth dining experience. Admission is not required if all you would like to do is dine at the café. They offer a decent selection of wines and beverages. While researching the museum we found this is a go-to brunch location for locals on Sundays.
