After researching restaurants in Reno we discovered an area downtown called the Riverwalk, so we thought we would stroll down the Riverwalk. It was a beautiful walk along the Truckee River. Now it is highly suggested that you do not take the walk alone or at night. We did notice homeless camped out along the area, they seemed to keep to themselves but you never know. It is a beautiful walk, if you watch closely, you may see some deer and other wildlife.

We walked around downtown for a little while window shopping at the local shops and boutiques, there are several art galleries that you can linger around in and see some amazing works of art. There are also several bars, pubs, and restaurants to choose from.

We decided to eat at Wild River Grille as it was a little more upscale and since it was my birthday dinner, we wanted something a little out of the normal. This was just that, while it was relaxing and casual with a little more upscale feeling. We would have liked to sit outside in their patio area overlooking the river. But it was still a little chilly in the evenings. Inside was nicely lit and as open as it was it was not loud; you can sit and enjoy each other’s company. There is a small bar area, so you do not have the bar feel like you get a lot of locations. We were seated at a table in the corner, and usually from experience when this happens, we are forgotten, but our waitress was very attentive and checked on us regularly. Our water glasses and drinks were always full, and we had everything we needed.

We started our meal with a couple of appetizers, then moved on to soup and shared a salad followed by our entrée choices and dessert. The soup had a nice rich flavor, not overly loaded with onions. The salad was perfect to share between the two of us. Both appetizers were good, better with an even number when sharing everyone gets an equal share. Hubby’s steak was cooked to a perfect medium rare the way he likes it and the amount of the Oscar-style add-on was perfect to make you not feel cheated with the additional cost. Duck is a hard thing to get right, and their duck is perfectly rendered so the skin is crispy, the bitterness of the pomegranate in the sauce made a wonderful balance of sweetness. The desert is something to share, it is over-the-top decadent and rich.

Luckily, we decided to grab a ride back to the hotel since it was late in the evening when we finished our meal, not only due to the timing and the brisk night air but also because we were stuffed. Everything was delicious, we did not have one complaint about anything, and no leftovers to take with us which was unusual. For a nice dinner, this is a nice place to go.
